Ajay is an Industrial Designer having a design office in Mumbai, India called Ajay Shah Design Studio. Over the three decades plus the office has engaged with clients across various sectors offering design services for projects.
He is the co-founder of Rubberband, products that he founded along with his life partner Maithili. Rubberband proposed a collection of paper products that expressed his style of design. Rubberband later collaborated with his design heroes to create additional collections. The collaborations included designers and artists such as Nathalie Du Pasquier, Anthony Burrill, Jean Julien, Floris Hovers, Erdem Selek, Big-Game and Experimental Jetset.
His love for a specific kind of furniture led him to start his own furniture line by the name of Industrial Playground. The collection of furniture is characterised by graphic forms, material construct, and bold colours. Each piece expresses his natural desire to break away from monotony and expected outcomes.
In 2026 he expanded Industrial Playground to include smaller objects.
